So just how did Ken Garff get his start?
An explosion at a Shell Service Station on the corner of 500 South and
State Street nearly cost Ken Garff his life, yet it catapulted him into the car
business. Ken was an attendant at the station and had walked out the doorway to
help a customer at the pump when the building exploded behind him. Shell began
reconstructing the building, but Ken was left with little to do. Thus, he began
to sell used cars to keep himself occupied. When Shell completed their building
they gave Ken an ultimatum, "If you want to keep working for us, you need to
stop selling cars." Too late. Ken had discovered the car business and was not
turning around.
Ken Garff founded his business in 1932 upon the principles of honesty and
integrity, personalized customer service and being a good corporate citizen.
These ideals fueled Ken's success as he earned new car franchises such as
Oldsmobile and Studebaker.
Today, these same ideals are at the very cornerstone of this third
generation business and the reason why consumers rate the Ken Garff Automotive
Group as the Most Preferred Dealer in the State of Utah according to a January
2004, Dan Jones survey. The Ken Garff Automotive Group is now associated with 39
new car franchises, three used car stores and five collision repair centers
located at 45 locations throughout Utah, from Ogden to St. George. The Ken Garff
Automotive Group also has business interests in insurance, warranties and
ecommerce companies.
As mentioned, the Ken Garff Automotive Group believes in giving back to the
community. Since Ken founded his business in 1932, the company has given
millions of dollars and thousands of man-hours to schools, charities and
community organizations.
Most recently, the Ken Garff Automotive Group has participated heavily in
your local community. Amounts donated have ranged from time and energy and
smaller sponsorships to larger donations; beneficiaries have ranged from local
communities to nationwide nonprofits; causes associated with have ranged from
providing youth with more educational incentives, inspirational messages and
opportunities to giving to those that sacrifice their lives and time by serving
in the military. In essence, the Ken Garff Automotive Group has wanted to help
improve the quality of life for those living in communities in which it does
business.
